Easy, Effective and Impactful: Your Path to Hiring University Talent
What is a Work Placement/Internship at the University of Galway?
- A work placement or internship is a structured, academic-based work experience that allows students to apply the knowledge and skills they’ve gained through their courses in a real-world environment.
- During their placement, students work with employers in relevant industries, gaining hands-on experience, developing practical skills, and enhancing their employability. The placements can range from a few weeks to several months, depending on the course and discipline.
- Work placements are paid or unpaid, varying by course/industry sector.
- Payment rates are at the discretion of the placement provider - we recommend the payment of at least minimum wage for paid placements.
- Work placements and internships at the University of Galway are mutually beneficial for both students and employers. Students gain valuable insights into their chosen field, while employers have the opportunity to assess potential future employees, contribute to student development, and receive support on projects or tasks that require additional resources.
