Overview

This micro-credential will support students to enhance knowledge and skills of clinical supervision practice. It provides foundational knowledge and skills to enable students in the supervisory role to develop, facilitate and engage in supervisory relationships within identified clinical supervision models to enhance the quality of patient/client care. The micro-credential is delivered using blended learning including (2 days workshops) that will focus on peer group clinical supervision and is delivered over 12 weeks. This micro-credential is multidisciplinary and welcomes applications from healthcare professionals from the wider multidisciplinary team (including medical doctors, MHN’s, RGN’S, practice nurses, public health nurses, RNID’s, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists) in acute, care of the older person, rehabilitation, continued care and community services.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be over 21 years of age. Students must have a letter from the Director of Nursing stating that they will be supported during the module, as students will receive CS and will be required to deliver peer group CS and one-one CS in the practice area.

  • Unit 2: Clinical supervision psychological concepts.
  • Unit 3: Key principles of effective implementation and challenges of clinical supervision.
  • Unit 4: Development and application of skills.

Course Outcomes
On successful completion of this micro-credential, you will receive credits as per the European Credit and Transfer System. These credits are recognised by the awarding institution as credits aligned to learning completed at postgraduate level 9.

  3. Critically discuss & appraise a range of models & approaches to CSPGCS
  4. Explore ethical implications and associated work dilemmas within clinical health service settings
  5. Engage in complex case discussion through individual and group supervision.
  6. Critically evaluate and demonstrate the practical knowledge and skills necessary to function effectively as a clinical supervisee/supervisor.
  7. Critically explore the means to implement the process of clinical supervision into practice within their own local nursing organisation or unit.
  8. Reflect & receive feedback on the content and process of their work.CS/PGCS
  9. Act as a potential professional resource to support other nurses in the introduction and implementation of CS/PGCS in the practice setting.
  10. Plan and utilise the personal and professional resources more effectively.
