Staff Network

Membership of the University of Galway LGBTQ+ Staff Network is open to all University of Galway Staff members with an interest in the purpose and aims of the Network. To ensure a welcome for all working on our campus, on-site Contractors are invited to join as Associate Members.

All Network events and activities are open to the University community. By joining as a member you will be added to the LGBTQ+ Staff Network mailing list, invited to comment on Network issues throughout the year, invited to Network events and celebrations, and hold voting rights on all Network decisions made at the AGM.

LGBTQ+ Ally Programme

If you want to actively support LGBTQ+ colleagues and students at the University of Galway, consider joining our LGBTQ+ Ally Programme. This initiative is open to all staff who share our commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive and respectful campus for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.

As an Ally you’ll receive resources and guidance to deepen your understanding of LGBTQ+ issues, raise awareness across your School or Unit, and visibly show your support for equality and inclusion. Once registered, you’ll be listed as an Ally and kept informed about upcoming LGBTQ+ events, training and initiatives across the University.

Becoming an Ally is a meaningful way to complement your membership in the LGBTQ+ Staff Network and help build a culture where everyone feels valued and supported.

In April 2026, we relaunched the University’s LGBTQ+ Ally Programme

The Ally Programme is a key initiative in supporting a more inclusive, respectful, and welcoming environment for LGBTQ+ staff and students across the University. This relaunch provides an opportunity to refresh the programme, reconnect with existing allies, and welcome new colleagues interested in advancing LGBTQ+ inclusion within our community. At this session, we:

  • Revisited the purpose and values of the Ally Programme
  • Shared updates, including refreshed resources and materials
  • Highlighted ways to get involved and support the LGBTQ+ Staff Network
  • Provided space for discussion, questions, and shared learning
