Cumas

Cumas

The Cumas Programme is an inclusive education programme at University of Galway for students with intellectual disabilities. Funded through the Higher Education Authority's PATH 4 Phase 2 initiative, the programme supports students to take part in university life through learning, volunteering, work experience, and social activities. Students build skills, confidence, friendships, and independence while working towards their future goals.

While the primary aims of the programme caters to the students and their needs, it is also envisioned that University of Galway and the wider community will benefit by developing a greater understanding and appreciation of the potential of people with intellectual disabilities.

Who is Cumas for?

The Cumas Programme is for people with an intellectual disability who would like to continue their learning and experience university life in an inclusive and supportive environment. The programme is best suited to applicants who have successfully completed a Level 2 qualification or an equivalent programme of study.

However, we recognise that learning happens in many different ways. If you have not completed a formal course before, you may still be eligible based on your previous learning, life experience, volunteering, work experience, or community involvement. We encourage anyone interested in the programme to apply.

If you are unsure whether Cumas is the right fit for you, please contact the Programme Director, who will be happy to discuss your experience and help you decide if the programme meets your learning goals and support needs. Email cumas@universityofgalway.ie or call 091 493 553.
