Established Professors
The series will bring together Established Professors from across the College of Arts, Social Sciences & Celtic Studies to explore a range of thought-provoking themes spanning the humanities and social sciences. Through five thematic discussions, the event will highlight the breadth and depth of expertise within the College, demonstrate how our research engages with pressing contemporary issues, and create opportunities for dialogue across disciplines. It will showcase the contribution of CASSCS research to understanding and addressing some of the key cultural, social, environmental and global challenges of our time.
Inaugural event
"What next for the humanities and social sciences?" forms the theme for the opening discussion, and features contributions from Rebecca Braun, Established Professor of German and World Literature; Dan Carey, Established Professor of English; and Pádraic Moran, Established Professor of Classics and Celtic Studies.

Erin McCarthy
Erin’s scholarship combines historical, philological, and material analysis of early modern literature and culture with innovations from digital humanities.
Patrick Lonergan
Patrick's research interests include: environmental humanities, theatre history and archives, and Irish literature and creative arts.
Dan Carey
Dan Carey researches early modern travel, natural history, intellectual history, Enlightenment thought, human nature and the history and philosophy of money.
Tríona Ní Shíocháin
Tríona specialises in arts practice, oral theory, performance theory, Irish traditional music/song/dance, and women oral composers from the 17th to 19th centuries.
Anne O'Connor
Anne's research interests include: Translation; Religion; Travel Literature; Italian History; 19th Century Italian Literature and Civilization and Community Based Learning.
Rebecca Braun
Rebecca's work explores how literary texts can drive new ways of thinking about the future, both as objects of analysis and as a co-creative process.
Breandán Mac Suibhne
Breandán's research interests include: social and cultural history of modern Ireland; migration; famine; history of education and environmental history.
Pádraic Moran
Pádraic’s research focuses on books and learning in early medieval Ireland and how knowledge was organised and codified in the later Roman Empire.
Nata Duuvury
Nata Duvvury is a development expert in gender, labour markets and welfare state, gendered impacts of globalization and the economic costs of gender based violence.
Enrico Dal Lago
Enrico's research focuses on slavery, antislavery, and the American Civil War in comparison and connection with contemporary events and social and political transformations in Europe.
Patrick Crowley
The primary focus of Patrick's research is on poetic form, its construction and its destabilization, mainly within colonial and postcolonial contexts.
Molly Byrne
Molly’s research aims to improve population health by developing, applying and promoting an evidence-based behavioural science approach to health behaviour change.
Pól Ó Dochartaigh
Pól's research interests include: Modern German History and Literature; German-Jewish History and Literature; Anti-Semitism; Jews in Ireland; National Identities; Scottish History; Onomastics.
Frances Fahy
An environmental geographer, Prof Fahy's research is located in the interdisciplinary field of sustainability, with specialist expertise in matters of (un)sustainable consumption and production (SCP), sufficiency strategies and energy demand.
Felix Ó Murchadha
Felix's research interests are in the fields of Philosophy of Religion; Philosophy of Time; Philosophy of the Self and Philosophy of Violence.
James Livesey
James Livesey researches and publishes extensively on the cultural history of the eighteenth-century Atlantic with an emphasis on the British Isles and France.
Florian Schneider
As an artist, filmmaker and curator, Florian has been involved in projects at all scales to rethink the impact and value of documentary practices in creative sectors.
