My time in Sligo was the highlight of my medical school journey. The academy offered a great learning environment, with welcoming clinical teams, supportive tutors, as well as ample study spaces and a shared kitchen that created a collaborative and inclusive learning atmosphere. At a time when medical school was becoming increasingly challenging with greater hands‑on clinical exposure, I am deeply grateful for the welcoming and comfortable learning environment that the Sligo Academy and Sligo University Hospital (SUH) consistently provided.

I attended Sligo Medical Academy from January to December 2025 and it was the highlight of my time studying Medicine. The Academy sits on the top two floors of Sligo University Hospital with incredible views of both Ben Bulben and Knocknarea. The facilities there are fantastic with lockers, changing rooms, showers, a well-stocked kitchen and social spaces that we made great use of during our time there. The staff in the academy and in the hospital overall could not have been nicer to us. The learning environment was warm and encouraging. We felt very strongly supported by the team. The food was also excellent. The Sligo Cantine was one of the highlights with a student discount for us medical students. This was another part of our daily routine that made studying and placement far more manageable and enjoyable. When our time in Sligo came to an end, none of us wanted to leave, and I still reminisce about my time there. I hope to work there as an intern after having such a positive experience.
