‌‌‌‌A/Prof Sheila Donnelly in the lab

Dr Sheila Donnelly completed her BA(Mod) and PhD in Microbiology and Neuroimmunology at Trinity College Dublin and has over 25 years of research experience. After completing postdoctoral positions at the National University of Ireland Maynooth and Dublin City University, she moved to the University of Technology of Sydney. There, she held an academic position and established her independent research group investigating the mechanisms by which helminth derived proteins and microRNAs regulate host immune cells. The findings from this work is applied to the development of novel strategies for parasite infection control and for the treatment of human immune-mediated disease. In 2023, Sheila brought her research to the University of Galway, where she is the Director of the MSc Biotechnology.
